Overview
A curated group of seven hand-painted gypsum plaster wall masks, famously known as 'Character Heads.' These pieces are celebrated for their hyper-realistic sculptural detail and represent a specific peak in British mid-century decorative collectibles.
Story
Bossons character masks brought global adventure and rugged human personality into post-war homes, becoming a massive mid-century decor phenomenon. These pieces peaked in popularity during the 1960s and 1970s, serving as accessible, expressive souvenirs for modernizing households.
Maker / Origin
W.H. Bossons Ltd., founded by Ray Bossons in Congleton, England, produced these heavily researched, hand-painted figures from 1958 until 1996.
Condition & Value
Because chalkware is inherently fragile, typical minor paint 'fleabites' relegate items to lower-priced bulk lots, while pristine examples carry a premium. Chalkware is extremely susceptible to 'flea bites' (tiny chips) and paint flakes, particularly on the noses and hat brims.
