Overview
A charming 'Pearl 24mo' pocket Bible featuring vibrant Victorian chromolithographed floral boards and a traditional leather spine.
Story
In the 1880s, the Oxford University Press was a global powerhouse, and this little volume traveled across the Atlantic to reach its New York warehouse on Bleecker Street.
Maker / Origin
Henry Frowde was the first 'Publisher to the University' of Oxford who wasn't a member of the university itself, serving from 1874 to 1913.
Condition & Value
The spine shows significant rubbing and loss of leather at the head and tail, and the corners of the boards are bumped. While Victorian Bibles are common, the unique floral boards and the Oxford/Frowde imprint make it more desirable than a standard black leather Bible.
