Overview

This is a classic loom-woven white bedspread, characterized by its heavy, embossed 'quilted' appearance known as Marseilles work or matelassé.

Story

In the mid-20th century, American households saw a massive revival of 'Colonial' aesthetics, leading New England mills to produce these heavy, durable spreads that mimicked 18th-century hand-stitched French quilts.

Maker / Origin

While the tag is not visible, the quality is consistent with the Bates Manufacturing Company, which dominated the market for these 'Heritage' spreads.

Condition & Value

The spread appears to be in excellent, bright white condition with no obvious fraying to the fringe or thinning of the weave. Value is driven by the size (King and Queen sizes are more desirable) and the pristine white condition.
