Overview

A delicate porcelain 'nappy' or nut basket featuring a hand-painted floral motif and a distinctive split-twig handle.

Story

The McKinley Tariff Act of 1891 changed the world of antiques forever by requiring all imports to be marked with their country of origin, giving birth to the legendary 'Nippon' mark.

Maker / Origin

While many of these pieces were produced by the Morimura Brothers (the precursors to the famous Noritake company), they were often the work of independent family kilns in the Nagoya and Seto regions.

Condition & Value

Based on the photo, the piece appears to be in excellent condition with no visible chips or hairline fractures. Small, unsigned Nippon-era pieces are charming and highly collectible, though they are currently in an affordable market cycle.
