1 uploaded photo

Overview

A natural rock matrix featuring a vug (cavity) filled with vibrant, druzy magenta Cobaltoan Calcite crystals. This specimen showcases the rare occurrence where cobalt replaces calcium in the crystal lattice…

Story

Deep within the Anti-Atlas Mountains of Morocco, miners working in one of the world's most remote cobalt mines occasionally break through a wall of dull grey rock to find a 'pocket of pink' like this.

Maker / Origin

Nature is the architect here, specifically the unique geological environment of the Bou Azzer district. This region is world-famous among mineralogists because it is one of the few places on Earth…

Condition & Value

The crystals appear to have good luster and the characteristic deep magenta color. There is some minor 'bruising' or crushing visible on the edges of the crystal pocket, which is common during the extraction process from the mine wall. The matrix appears stable and provides a nice natural frame for the crystals.
