Overview
This vibrant yellow vessel is a quintessential example of Bauer's 'Ring Ware,' the line that brought a splash of California sunshine to American kitchens during the Great Depression.
Story
In 1932, as the Great Depression gripped the nation, the J.A. Bauer Pottery Company made a radical move by ditching traditional white plates for a riot of solid, primary colors.
Maker / Origin
Originally a manufacturer of whiskey jugs in Kentucky, J.A. Bauer moved to Los Angeles in 1909 and eventually transformed the industry under the creative direction of Louis Ipsen.
Condition & Value
The piece exhibits heavy crazing (fine surface cracking of the glaze), which is typical for Bauer of this vintage. Bauer Ring Ware is a staple of California pottery collecting.
