Overview
A classic example of Indian woodcraft, this octagonal tray features a central floral relief and a 'jali' style pierced rim.
Story
The 1960s saw a massive surge in Western interest in Indian artisanal goods, as travelers on the 'Hippie Trail' brought back treasures from the bazaars of the East.
Maker / Origin
While the individual carver remains anonymous, this piece comes from a lineage of master woodworkers in Northern India who have practiced 'Takshac' (wood carving) for centuries.
Condition & Value
The wood appears somewhat dry, which is common for vintage Sheesham; there is visible separation at the joints of the octagonal rim. These trays were produced in significant quantities for the export market, which keeps the price accessible.
