Overview
A heavy, solid cast-iron pressing tool used for laundry before the widespread adoption of domestic electricity.
Story
Laundry day in the late 19th century was a grueling, multi-day marathon that centered around the heat of a wood-burning stove.
Maker / Origin
The Dover Manufacturing Company of Ohio, led by Charles Johnson, became the premier name in ironing technology by patenting the 'Asbestos' lined iron.
Condition & Value
The iron shows significant surface oxidation and pitting consistent with age and storage in a non-climate-controlled environment. While these were produced in the millions, examples with clear 'Asbestos' branding are popular with 'rust-ic' decorators and tool collectors.
