Overview

A whimsical anthropomorphic ceramic cookie jar featuring a maternal sow in a blue dress and pink-trimmed apron, cradling four piglets.

Story

Post-war American kitchens underwent a transformation in the 1950s, moving away from purely utilitarian tools toward objects that sparked joy and conversation.

Maker / Origin

Metlox Potteries, founded in 1927 by T.C. Prouty, became a titan of the California pottery scene, particularly famous for their 'Poppytrail' line.

Condition & Value

The piece shows some visible crazing (fine spiderweb lines in the glaze) which is very common for California pottery of this age and generally accepted by collectors. There appears to be some minor wear along the base rim. Ensure there are no hidden chips under the lid, as 'flea bites' on the inner rim can reduce value by 20%.
