Overview
This is an oversized, hand-faceted glass 'jewel' designed to mimic a gargantuan gemstone, likely intended as a decorative paperweight or a retail display piece.
Story
In the mid-20th century, glass houses in the Ohio River Valley and Bohemia produced these 'giant diamonds' as a way to bring a touch of cinematic glamour into the average home.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, this piece is consistent with the output of legendary glass houses like Fenton, Blenko, or the master cutters of Jablonec.
Condition & Value
The piece shows some surface abrasions and 'flea bites' (tiny chips) along the sharpest facet edges, which is typical for heavy glass of this age. These minor imperfections are consistent with use as a paperweight and do not significantly detract from its decorative 'fire'.
