Mid-Century Modern 'Monkey' Kitchen Valet with Ceramic Inset

Photo reference

1 uploaded photo

Overview

A whimsical anthropomorphic kitchen organizer crafted from stained hardwood, featuring a stylized monkey face and a decorative ceramic tile belly.

Story

The 1960s saw a massive shift in kitchen decor where the 'strictly functional' gave way to the 'playfully kitsch.' This monkey was born out of the Tiki and Safari trends that swept through suburban America, offering a touch of the exotic to the morning breakfast nook.

Maker / Origin

While often unsigned, these novelty woodenwares were frequently produced by export giants like Otagiri or Takahashi.

Condition & Value

The wood appears to be in good condition with a nice luster; however, the value is heavily dependent on whether the full set of utensils is present. The ceramic tile looks vibrant and free of major crazing or chips. Minor wear on the metal hooks is consistent with age. Excellent condition for its age.
