Overview

A magnificent example of Golden Age travel, this 'Malle Cabine' features the iconic hand-stenciled monogram canvas, solid brass hardware, and custom hand-painted 'stable stripes' in red and white.

Story

The hand-painted 'Phila. Pa.' script on the side tells us this trunk began its life as the companion of a wealthy Philadelphian embarking on a transatlantic voyage.

Maker / Origin

Louis Vuitton began as a 'layetier-emballeur' (trunk packer) for Empress Eugénie before revolutionizing the industry with flat-topped trunks that could be stacked in cargo holds.

Condition & Value

The exterior shows a beautiful 'honey' patina on the leather trim and expected oxidation on the brass hardware. Authentic vintage LV trunks with original interior labels and custom hand-painted stripes are highly sought after by both collectors and high-end interior designers.
