A striking cobalt blue stoneware vessel featuring hand-carved sgraffito floral motifs and a contrasting sky-blue drip glaze at the neck.
Story
Post-war households in the 1950s were hungry for color and soul after years of wartime austerity and the clinical feel of early industrial plastics.
Maker / Origin
The blue 'P' mark on the base is highly consistent with Pates Potteries of Sydney, a studio that became famous for its 'Blue Glaze' sgraffito range during the mid-century period.
Condition & Value
The piece appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing to the glaze. Value is driven by the current high demand for Mid-Century Modern 'Blue' sgraffito ware.
