Overview
This is a classic 'Hope Chest' featuring the iconic rounded 'waterfall' edge and book-matched veneers typical of the late Art Deco period.
Story
In the early 20th century, these chests were the emotional heart of a home, often gifted to young women to store linens and heirlooms for their future married lives.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1907 in Huntington, Indiana, Caswell-Runyan became one of the premier names in cedar chests and radio cabinets.
Condition & Value
There is significant veneer chipping and loss along the vertical decorative bands on the front face. While Caswell-Runyan is a respected name, the current market for large brown furniture is soft, and the visible veneer damage on the front significantly impacts the price.
