Overview
This is a longitudinal section of fossilized wood that has undergone permineralization, where every organic cell was replaced by silica over millions of years.
Story
Over 200 million years ago, a massive conifer tree fell into a silt-heavy river system in a lush, tropical landscape that we now know as the high desert of the American Southwest.
Maker / Origin
The 'maker' here is the Earth itself, specifically the geological forces of the Triassic period. However, the presentation is the work of a lapidary artist who recognized the internal beauty of the rough stone.
Condition & Value
The polished face appears to be in excellent condition with no visible surface scratches or 'bruising' from impact. The natural edges are intact, and there are no structural 'vugs' or holes that would weaken the slab. Excellent preservation of the internal pattern. Condition is consistent with a well-kept display specimen.
