Overview

A charming example of American semi-vitreous dinnerware featuring a vibrant decal of cabbage roses framed by a shimmering peach-toned lustre border.

Story

Pennsylvania's 'Pottery Valley' was the heart of American ceramic production when this plate was fired in the mid-1940s.

Maker / Origin

Founded in 1900 by W.S. George, the Canonsburg Pottery Company was a titan of the Pennsylvania industry for nearly 80 years.

Condition & Value

The front of the plate presents well, but the reverse shows heavy crazing and 'tea staining'—discoloration caused by moisture and oils seeping into the porous clay body… While these pieces are beloved by collectors of Americana and 'shabby chic' decor, they were mass-produced in high volumes.
