Overview
This is a substantial specimen of smoky quartz, a variety of crystalline quartz that gains its signature 'tea-stained' hue from natural irradiation deep within the earth.
Story
Millions of years ago, aluminum impurities within clear quartz were exposed to natural radiation from surrounding granite deposits, slowly transforming the stone into this translucent, smoky brown.
Maker / Origin
While the 'maker' is the Earth itself, the lapidary work—the cutting and polishing—likely took place in a specialized workshop in Brazil, the world's leading source for high-quality quartz.
Condition & Value
The polish appears to be in good condition with a high luster. There are visible internal inclusions and natural fractures which are characteristic of the stone; any minor surface nicks at the base or tip would be typical for a specimen of this size.
